RSP Proposes 57 Names for Proportional Representation Seats Following Landslide Victory

KATHMANDU – The Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) moved to solidify its historic mandate on Sunday, recommending 57 individuals to fill its allotted seats under the proportional representation (PR) category of the House of Representatives.

The decision was finalized during a secretariat meeting held at the party’s central office in Banasthali. The meeting, which saw Party Chair Rabi Lamichhane participate virtually due to ongoing medical treatment, marks a critical step for the party as it transitions from an insurgent political force to a dominant governing body.

Next Steps: Election Commission Verification

While the party has finalized the internal selection, the specific names of the nominees have not yet been released to the public. Spokesperson Jha emphasized that the list remains “proposed” until it undergoes formal scrutiny.

“The Election Commission will now verify the list to ensure it meets all legal and cluster-based requirements,” Jha stated. “The names will be made public once the certification process is complete.”

Context of a Landslide

The recommendation of 57 PR seats comes on the heels of the RSP’s sweeping success in the March 5 general elections. The party secured 125 seats through the First-Past-The-Post (FPTP) system and claimed nearly 48% of the popular vote in the PR category—the highest share for a single party in Nepal’s modern history.

With a total projected tally of 182 seats in the 275-member House, the RSP is poised to lead the next government with an almost two-thirds supermajority.
