Nepali Congress Finalizes PR Candidate List for Election Commission

The Nepali Congress (NC) has officially finalized the names of 20 candidates to represent the party under the Proportional Representation (PR) system. Following a decisive meeting of the Central Working Committee, the party has recommended the final list to the Election Commission (EC) to fill its allotted seats in the House of Representatives.

General Secretary Pradeep Poudel confirmed that the selection process, which had been delayed due to internal discussions regarding gender balance in specific clusters, is now complete. “All names for the seats allocated to the Nepali Congress through the PR system have been finalized and formally recommended,” Poudel stated.

The list reflects the constitutionally mandated inclusion clusters, covering Indigenous Peoples, Khas Arya, Dalit, Madhesi, Tharu, and Muslim groups. Notably, the party had to carefully navigate the 33% female representation requirement while balancing influential male leaders within the clusters.
